  1. This CD-ROM version of the SIGGRAPH 94 conference proceedings is notable 
  2. for the additional breadth its authors have provided.  In 1993 we had 
  3. Acrobat papers, TIFF files, and a very few "goodies" such as QuickTime 
  4. movies and source code.  This year we have a large number of movies in 
  5. both QuickTime and MPEG format, we have source code for two different 
  6. systems, and we have two papers that gave us html files so that a 
  7. version of their paper can be read by Mosaic acting in local mode.  Most 
  8. authors also gave us PostScript files with full color, so the electronic 
  9. versions of their papers are a close reflection of the actual papers.
  10.  
  11. This year we have taken a different tack to the presentation of the 
  12. Acrobat papers.  We have merged all the individual papers into a full 
  13. "electronic proceedings" including covers and title page (although the 
  14. title page has less resolution than the actual one, which may not be 
  15. readable on smaller systems; the final title page is included 
  16. separately).  The main effect of this merging is that we are able to use 
  17. the Table of Contents and the Author Index to provide links into 
  18. individual papers within the "book."  We hope you will browse the 
  19. electronic proceedings and print off individual papers as you like.
  20.  
  21. We are pleased that we have an expanded set of Acrobat Readers for you 
  22. this year.  Adobe has released readers for DOS and Solaris, and they are 
  23. included on the disc.  For those of you who do not have systems that 
  24. support Acrobat, however, we have the full PostScript files for each 
  25. paper on the disc so you may print them as you like.
  26.  
  27. This disc has few top-level directories:  Procs, where the full 
  28. Proceedings and title page are found; Papers, where there is a directory 
  29. for each conference paper containing the PostScript file for that paper 
  30. as well as whatever "goodies" the authors have provided; and Apps, where 
  31. the Acrobat Readers and QuickTime players are found.  There is also a 
  32. Table of Contents in the Papers directory that will help you associate 
  33. each paper with the appropriate directory.

  35. We hope you find this year's disc to be more useful than last year's, 
  36. but we know that electronic publications still have a ways to go.  If
